Glo unveils new theme campaign
Stories by Akin Adewakun

Mike Adenuga, Chairman, Globacom line with its evolving brand
strategy, Globacom Limited has formally unveiled a new advertising
campaign with the theme, We’ve Got People Talking (WGPT).
Conceptualised around Globacom’s founding philosophy of empowering
Nigerians to effectively communicate with each other; the press and
outdoor elements of the campaign were unveiled in Lagos last week.
The television commercials and radio jingles are billed to hit the
airwaves in a short while.
The materials which were shot across Nigeria and other parts of
Africa showcased the continent’s scenic landscape and the rich
cultural heritage of its people. Its strong visual appeal lends
credence to the high quality production for which Globacom has been
known.
According to Globacom’s Director of Advertising, Joachim Atunwa,
WGPT is a brand building initiative that celebrates the empowerment
that Glo has brought to the lives of Nigerians, noting that
communications, which has been identified globally as a major
catalyst for economic growth and development, has become an
intricate part of Nigerians and Africans.
The campaign finds resonance with Globacom’s mission of building
Africa ’s biggest and best network and showcases the various routes
through which the company has adopted in realizing its dreams. These
include uniting nations, encouraging bonding in families, enabling
the expression of deep feelings among lovers, doing good business
among business partners, enabling people to enjoy life’s best, among
several others.
Glo’s latest communication slant was introduced through the medium
of music, which is one of Nigeria ’s greatest passions. “As a brand
that makes conscious effort to cater to the different segments of
the Nigerian population, the music was orchestrated in diverse
forms, ranging from instrumental to voice-enriched ensemble– in all
cases ensuring that they are imbued with our core values of clarity,
positive energy, and world-class quality, Atunwa stated.
Globacom launched GSM service in Nigeria on August 29, 2003, using
Glo with Pride as its pay-off line, which immediately won for the
company affinity with Nigerian consumers and fuelled a sense of
national pride. However, the pay-off line was rested on January 12,
2007 when the telecommunication giant unveiled a new brand
expression, Rule Your World, which currently subsists. Its latest
advertising campaign, We’ve Got People Talking, is anchored on the
Rule Your World platform.
For a network that has hit the 20 million subscriber mark in its
Nigerian operation within just five years of operation, this indeed
is an auspicious time for it to celebrate its achievement of getting
people talking.
