END OF THE ROAD FOR NIGERIA AS BENIN WHIP EAGLETS 3 – 0.
Story by: John Uzor

Nigeria’s hope of competing in the Algeria
2009 U-17 African Championship, was dashed last Sunday following
their 3 – 0 bashing in the hands of the young squirrels of Benin
Republic in Cotonou.
The Golden Eaglets went into the match
with a 2 – 0 advantage, but were however shadow of themselves in the
return leg, leaving the benenoise to dominate the stage from the
blast of the whistle. The host superiority was not in doubt as they
finished their visitors on the counters.
The Nigerian team failed to click in all
area of the game. The Eaglets could not fight back or press goals
as the team battle to contain the host until the third goal which
came in the last minute of the game, buried the ambition of the
country to move on. It would be recalled that the Golden Eaglets won
FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea last year under the lat coach Tella Yemi.
Nigeria’s hope of participating in the U-17 World Cup next year now
depends on FIFA confirmation of the country as the host of the cadet
championship.
