2007
Story by: John Uzor

The Local Organising Committee of the Nigeria 2009 U-17 World Cup
has hailed functioning competition in the mine centres set to host
the cadet competition. Six of the Wins Centres will eventually host
the U-17 World Football event. Chief Executive Officers of the
Nigeria 2009 LOC, Menisara Illo, said on Friday that the body was
happy to have developed nine stadiums in the state.
Illo said he was pleased with the reading of Lagos ahead of the
competition after inspecting the Teslim Balogun Stadium. He also
confirmed that the Ogun State Government had done much in preparing
the Ijebu-Ode Stadium for the competition. These two stadiums are in
great condition and that is good for the development of football in
Nigeria.
“Again let me emphasis that other states are working hard on their
respective stadium. Warri, Kaduna, Calabar, Enugu, Kano and Bauchi
are also in great condition. Abuja is also ready and we are happy
with the response of the states generally on this projects” Illo
said Nigeria won the last edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in
Korea last year under the Late Coach Yemi Tella.
